Children's Christian Education at WPC

Cribbery
Nursery care is provided for babies and toddlers from 8:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. each Sunday. A paid cribbery supervisor along with volunteer help provides loving care for the children in a safe environment. An area is available for nursing mothers. Westminster's policy is that only non-smokers can work or volunteer in the Cribbery.

Under Six
Under-Six Sunday School is held 10:10-11:00 a.m. each Sunday for children two through kindergarten. There are four classes, one for each age group, led by experienced and caring teachers and volunteers. The curriculum, Bible Quest, is enhanced with a variety of crafts, singing, and the playing of musical instruments. To strengthen the link between church and home, a prayer pamphlet is distributed for use by teachers and parents.

During worship at 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. on Sundays, there will be childcare in Under Six for children age 2 through preschool.

Godly Play
Godly Play is a worship experience for young children, ages 5, 6 and 7, that will be offered immediately following "Time with Children," during the 9:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. This developmentally appropriate introduction to thoughtful worship is a way of sharing the Biblical story using hands-on, concrete materials that help focus attention and assist memory.

Children participating in Godly Play should also attend the 10:10 Sunday School classes. If you are a parent who prefers the 9:00 a.m. service and you have children in Kindergarten, First or Second grade, Godly Play will help prepare them to participate in congregational worship. Children, who have experienced Godly Play for at least a year and/or have finished the 2nd grade, will then be better able to remain with their families in traditional worship. For details, call Susan Moseley at 654-5214 x103.

Grades 3-5 Child Care
Child care is available for children in grades 3-5 during the 9:00 a.m. service. This is an alternative to the children staying in worship with parents but is not a substitute for Sunday School at 10:10 a.m.

Worship Bags
These bags can be picked up as you enter worship. The bags contain many worship-appropriate items children will find engaging.

Kids' Notes
One of our efforts to make worship services more accessible to children is Kids' Notes, a Sunday-morning publication especially for the young. Click here to learn more.

Grades 1-6
Grades 1-6 meet each Sunday, 10:10-11:00 a.m., in Rooms 1-7 adjacent to Grace Hall. There are two teachers per grade level to guide understanding of Bible stories at an appropriate level and the curriculum used is PCUSA Bible Quest. All classes come together for Gathering Time at 10:50 for a time for sharing, stewardship, and singing. Special guests are occasionally invited to explain and share stories of their experiences.

Puzzle Answers from last Sunday's Kid's Notes

Worship Discovery classes, which include baptism education and communion preparation, are special classes for children in grades 1 and 2. These are scheduled at special times during the year.

Other Opportunities for Children:

Sunshine Choir
The Sunshine Choir, for children in grades 1 and 2, is the first step in Westminster's graduated choir program. The choir meets 6:45-7:15 p.m. on Tuesday evenings and participates in worship every four to six weeks.
Fun and praise are the primary objectives of this choir, and the children enjoy singing, moving, playing musical instruments and getting to know one another at every rehearsal. Click here for details.

Chapel Club
Chapel Club (formerly Youth Club) serves children in grades 3 through 6. These Tuesday meetings, 4:30-7:30 p.m., provide a rich environment in which children can grow in faith through fellowship, study, recreation, music, and the development of worship skills. Click here for details.

Chapel Choir
The Chapel Choir (grades 3-6) is an integral part of Westminster's outstanding Chapel Club program, which meets on Tuesdays, 4:30-7:30 p.m.
The Chapel Choir ministry provides children with the opportunity to deepen their faith through music, and prepares them for participation and leadership in worship through music education. This choir participates regularly in worship and presents a musical each March. Click here for details.

Intergenerational Choir
for Children, Youth and Adults

New to Westminster this fall, the Intergenerational Choir seeks adult, youth and children members. The choir will rehearse on Sunday mornings and participate in the 11:15 a.m. worship service once a month. For details, please contact Paul Fleckenstein or Mary Beth Davis.
